The construction of the well in the village of Ban Nongchang was financed by the Geneva City Solidarity Delegation (DGVS). The well was constructed on January 10, 2018.

Ban Nonchang is located more than 25 kilometres from the city of Hinboun, with all the difficulties that this implies. During the monsoon season, from June to November, the village is inaccessible. It has 438 people in 70 households. The community is affected by a major period of drought (June to November).

Before the well was built, children walked about 30 minutes a day to the nearest water point where the water is dangerously polluted.
